Safaricom Partners with Cloudflare and Copy Cat to Provide Affordable Cybersecurity Services for MSMEs in Kenya

Safaricom, Cloudflare, and Copy Cat Group have joined forces to provide micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Kenya with affordable and comprehensive cybersecurity services. Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecommunications provider, Cloudflare, a global web infrastructure and cybersecurity leader, and Copy Cat, an East African systems integrator, will offer digital security solutions designed to meet the needs of local businesses.

This partnership aims to bolster the cybersecurity of MSMEs by providing solutions that are both cost-effective and easily accessible. Safaricom will now offer Cloudflare’s advanced cybersecurity services, including zero-trust and email security, which will be hosted locally in Kenya’s data centers. These cloud-based services will be available to businesses for as low as KES 5,000 per site per month.

Through this collaboration, businesses will be able to subscribe to a range of cloud-based cybersecurity plans online. Once subscribed, full-stack application and network security solutions will be operational within hours. This speed of deployment ensures that MSMEs can quickly protect their digital assets and operations from the growing threat of cyberattacks.

According to Cynthia Kropac, Safaricom’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, the partnership with Cloudflare and Copy Cat is an important step in safeguarding businesses from the increasing digital threats they face. She highlighted the need for effective cybersecurity measures in an era where digitization is expanding rapidly, especially among MSMEs.

“By leveraging Cloudflare’s solutions, such as zero-trust services and email security hosted locally in data centres within Kenya, we are investing in a future-proof infrastructure that provides every customer with robust and advanced protection from cyber threats.” she said.

This initiative comes at a crucial time, as recent data from the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) reported a 16.5% rise in cyberattacks between April and June 2024, totaling 1.1 billion incidents. This increase in digital threats has raised concerns among businesses, many of which are already struggling to secure their systems against evolving cyber risks.

Cloudflare, with its processing capacity of over 248TB, is offering unprecedented digital protection in Kenya. This capacity is reportedly “30 times more than any other provider in the market,” according to Safaricom, making it a game-changer for MSMEs looking for reliable security solutions.

Graham Turnbull, Cloudflare’s Managing Executive, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that it would bring effective digital security solutions closer to business owners, allowing them to focus on optimizing productivity and service delivery.

For Copy Cat, this collaboration marks an important step in ensuring that businesses, regardless of their size, have access to enterprise-grade cybersecurity. Vishal Patel, Managing Director at Copy Cat, emphasized the importance of having secure, fast, and reliable digital infrastructure to help businesses scale confidently.

“The partnership with Safaricom is bringing comprehensive and effective digital security solutions closer to business owners to enable them to focus on optimising productivity and service, with a software that guarantees progress.” he stated.
